Taking another step towards promotion of EVs Uttar Pradesh allots fund to set up charging depots

Uttar Pradesh government has allotted funds for setting up charging depots in the state. According to a report by ET, these charging stations will be set up in 14 cities where electric buses will be operated.  The fund allotted is Rs 150 crore, which is lower than the earlier proposed Rs 250 crore.

Now after the allotment of the fund for charging depots, state government is planning to introduce electric vehicles in the cities. The state has also allocated 640 buses to 11 UP cities under FAME II policy of the central government. These buses are to be operated through Public-Private-Partnership (PPP). Under FAME-II the Centre is providing states with Rs 45 lakh subsidy per bus for hiring.

The State government is also in talks with South Korean electric vehicle maker Edition Motors, HT has reported. The company has expressed its interest to set up its production facility in the state and thereby investing Rs 5000 Crores. Under the proposal more than 90 per cent components will be made in the state giving a boost to the MSME sector. At present the company is identifying land near Lucknow and Yamuna Expressway for setting up the plant.

Uttar Pradesh, earlier this year has also approved road tax relief to manufacturers of electric vehicles. The state offers 100 per cent exemption in road tax on the first one lakh two-wheeler electronic vehicles to be manufactured and 75 per cent exemption for four-wheelers.
