Here we have listed down some of the developments taking place in the emerging emobility industry in India:

Ather 450X electric scooter’s deliveries in India from November 2020

Ather 450X electric scooter was launched in India in January this year. The company has now shared that its deliveries will begin in a phased manner from November. Beginning with Bengaluru and Chennai the flagship scooter will be available in 10 cities across the country by Q1 2021.

The electric scooter runs on Lithium-ion battery pack, has range of 85Kms/ charge and takes around 4 hrs to charge. It has some advanced connectivity features like a seven-inch capacitative touchscreen, Android-based OS for map navigation, on-board diagnostics, Bluetooth connectivity, embedded 4G simcard etc. The price of Ather 450X starts at Rs. 99,000 and goes upto Rs. 1.45 Lakh.

Meru Cabs to focus on B2B segment

Mahindra Group-backed ride hailing services provider Meru Cabs will focus on B2B (business-to-business) segment, leveraging its mobility platform, and not get into the “B2C war,” according to news reports.  A market leader in B2C (business-to-customer), B2B and B2C2B (business-to-consumer-to-business) segments, Meru, with a wide fleet of vehicles ranging from hatchbacks, economy and luxury sedans to premium SUVs and buses, including electric vehicles (EVs), caters to both intra- and inter-city travel, besides airport and car rental services. The company also plans to invest on creating infra for EVs and expand its footprint further in the green transporting solution.

PURE EV enters its first international market

IIT Hyderabad-incubated startup, PURE EV is launching its ‘EPluto7G’ in Nepal from October 2020. For distribution of its EV two-wheelers in Nepal, the startup has partnered with White Lotus Motors (WLM).  The electric two wheeler has top speed 60 KMPH, range of 90 to 120 KM, and 2.5 KWH patented battery design. PURE EV had also recently launched ETrance Plus Scooter.

Pune announces tender to buy 150 electric buses

Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has announced a tender inviting bid for 150 electric buses. The criteria for the buses that they buses should be 12-meter-long, air-conditioned, and compliant with Bus Rapid Transit. The tender falls under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid) and Electric Vehicles-II (FAME-II) program. The last day for the online submission of technical and price bids is September 30, 2020. A similar tender was issued by Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation also for 50 air-conditioned electric buses which was won by GreenCell earlier this month.

Husqvarna is planning to launch e-scooter in India

The Swedish motorcycle brand owned by KTM, Husqvarna is planning to launch e-scooter in India in 2021. It is known that Bajaj Auto holds 48% stake in KTM. The esccoter will employ 4kW electric motor and may utilize the same platform that the KTM’s upcoming e-scooter and Bajaj Chetak Electric are based on. At present Ather 450X and the Bajaj Chetak Electric are the products that may be challenged by the escooter.

Eeve India is planning to launch IoT enabled two-wheelers

Electric vehicle startup, Eeve India is planning to launch IoT enabled two-wheelers. Eeve India’s parent company Bhubaneshwar based Omjay EV has enetered into a partnership, Aeris. Under this partnership Aeris will provide telematics solution to the vehicles already launched and upcoming models of Eeve India.
