Gujarat announces scheme to promote EVs , Delhi begins work on setting up Charging Stations

Gujarat state government has announced a scheme to propel adoption of electric vehicles specially use of battery-operated two-wheelers and three-wheelers in the state.

Some of the provisions of the scheme are as follows:

  • Subsidy of ₹12,000 to students studying in Standard-9th to colleges using battery-operated two-wheelers.
  • Subsidy of ₹42,000 upon the purchase of an electric three-wheeler to rickshaw drivers and any self-employed person.
  • Through this scheme the government aims to have at least 10,000 electric two-wheelers and 5,000 electric three-wheelers by the end of current fiscal year comes.

According to a report by TNN, a fund of ₹50-lakh rupee has also been allocated for creating necessary infrastructure for charging e-vehicle. According to media reports ten public charging stations will be set up in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat and Rajkot.

In another news, Delhi government has started to work on setting up 200 public charging and battery-swapping stations in the city. The government agencies in Delhi now have been allotted the task of identifying the locations for these charging stations within their jurisdictions in coming two weeks. The agencies included are, the three municipal corporations, New Delhi Municipal Corporation, Delhi Development Authority, Public Works Department, and the transport department. The Delhi government had also recently announced a policy to promote electric vehicles (EV).
